The more we make today, the more you can make tomorrow!
Some libraries have a “Maker Space” in their buildings – the new Ridgefield Library IS a Maker Space. Rather than restricting maker activity to one room, we seek to use our entire building as a laboratory for creativity and for technology instruction and innovation. Beyond the well-equipped Donofrio Family Technology Center, we bring an array of hands-on opportunities to program and meeting rooms in all departments on all floors of the building.
To accommodate the huge interest on the part of patrons from pre-schoolers to seniors, the Library is seeking your help to purchase and outfit several Maker Carts that can be used wherever they are needed. These handy units will be chock full of the equipment and supplies needed for projects from 3D design and printing to programming robots. Each cart will include a portable computer (laptop or tablet) for specialized software and wireless Internet access, along with electronics tools and gadgets and the building blocks for popular projects, such as 3Doodlers (3D printing pens), Snap Circuits (a toy that teaches electronics without soldering), Magna-Tiles and Legos™, Makey Makey kits (allow the user to turn anything into a touchpad), stop motion animation cameras and a 3D scanner. With these handy carts, library staff and patrons can use technology to go anywhere and do anything!
Each fully equipped Maker Cart costs $3,000. Every donation made online on Givng Day helps outfit a cart and bring the power of technology to more library visitors of all ages.
Give online or visit the Donation Station in the Bossidy Commons to make your gift on the spot and help us earn special matching gifts and incentives.
SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION
Stop by the Donofrio Technology Center at the Ridgefield Library between 1:00 and 4:00 PM on Giving Day to get a taste of the creative activities your donation will make possible. 3D designer and technology instructor at the Library Chris Iorillo will demonstrate the process of taking your idea from concept to completed object using 3D design and printing tools. Your support for the purchase of Maker Carts will allow us to “make” even more!
