Current & Upcoming Events

Ridgefield Library Days @ Books on the Common
November 28 - 30, 2014
Show your Ridgefield library card while shopping at your neighborhood independent bookstore over the Thanksgiving weekend, and 15% of the value of your purchases will be donated to the Library.

To make your holiday shopping even easier, the bookstore will be open Friday the 28th from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Saturday the 29th from 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday the 30th from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

The 29th is also Small Business Saturday, when shoppers get a rebate on purchases made with an American Express card at participating small retailers including Books on the Common. As a special incentive that day, the bookstore will be participating in IndiesFirst, a program in which authors take a turn at being booksellers at their local independent bookstore – drop by and Lauren Tarshis (noon - 2:00 PM), Roz Chast (2:00 - 4:00 PM), Peter Spiegelman (2:00 - 4:00 PM) and Mark Slouka (noon - 2:00 PM) will be on hand to serve you!

Our neighbor on Prospect Street, Piccolo Pizza, Pasta and Catering, was pleased to support the new Ridgefield Library the neighborhood with a special promotion.10% of the cost of purchases by those bringing in a special coupon were donated by Piccolo to the Library.

Guest Bartender Night at Gallo Ristorante

Library Director Chris Nolan, Board members Shane Casey and Marc Colamaria, and advisor Nick Donofrio were kept busy behind the bar at the Library's Guest Bartender Night at Gallo Ristorante. All the tips they received support the Library, and Gallo contributed 10% of the evening's liquor bill as well.

Cheered on by fans and Library supporters, Mitch Ancona, of Ancona's Wines, successfully set a new world record for most bottles of Champagne opened with a sabre in one minute. Sponsored by Ancona's Wines & Liquors, Ancona's Market, and Tusk & Cup, proceeds benefitted the Ridgefield Library.

Once again, Ridgefielders showed their support for their Library and their local independent bookstore, resulting in proceeds of $900 donated to the Library by Ellen Burns and Darwin Ellis at BOTC.

 

We're Moving Forward
June 1, 2012

Over 100 people enjoyed a last hurrah before we got ready to close the doors at our current location and move to temporary quarters during construction, with a festive evening to mark the occasion.  Libations...hors d'oeuvres...live and silent auctions of unique Library-themed items, with everyone's favorite auctioneer Ira Joe Fisher, brought in over $18,000 to support the ongoing operations of the Library.

More than 70 people temporarily forgot their storm-related woes with an evening of food and entertainment with a fun Italian flair! Singer/entertainer Steve Kazlauskas wowed the crowd with his renditions of Sinatra favorites. Proceeds supported the Library's annual operations.

David Gale Benefit Concert
October 3, 2010
Ridgefield native and violin virtuoso David Gale donated his time and talent to present a recital at South Salem Presbyterian Church to benefit the Library, where he was homeschooled while launching his musical career.

 

End of Summer Reading Celebration at Piccolo Pizza

August 2010
Hungry eaters earned nearly $600 for the Library as Piccolo Pizza generously donated a portion of all proceeds to the Library. Children's Programmer Diane Antezzo gratefully accepts a check from Piccolo's manager.
